Well, back in the day [summer of 1972], my wife and I did a 30-day zig-zag trip from PA to OR with stops at Mt Rushmore, top of Pikes Peak, Carslbad Caversn, Grand Canyon, Santa Fe, Hollyood, San Simeon, San Francisco, up the coast highway through the Redwoods, Crater Lake, Seattle, and back down to OR -- all the while towing a large Starcraft tent-trailer. Because of my inexperience towing, etc., I lost the clutch about 500 miles into the trip. I learned. We lost a muffler at Yosemite and replaced a tire at the same place. Those were the only mechanical difficulties we had on the trip! It was about 3700 miles if I recall...and it was the stock 1-bbl engine.
