NO Spark @ Plugs -- Totally Perplexed Posted by 88SPGClone [Email] (#1317) [Profile/Gallery] (more from 88SPGClone) on Fri, 10 Aug 2012 20:15:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
No spark to plugs whatsoever to my 69 96.
I have a new Bosch blue coil (3 ohm) which matches the two sets of new Pertronix 1847V kits. I have two Pertronix kits with same result. So I rule out Pertronix. Pertronix is very simple to setup. The wires on the coil are pretty simple: one from ignition going to coil +, red from Pertronix going to coil +, one tachometer (which I have removed to rule out issue) going to coil - and black from Pertronix going to coil -. Set the the gap with Pertronix provided plastic feeler gauge. Pull coil wire out of distributor and ground with screwdriver...crank over and get a "small spark" on 96 cross member ground. Jack Lawrence thinks I should be getting at least a 5/8 spark. I took coat hanger from coil center to ground and get same "small spark" on cross member ground. So I rule out coil wire since I got the same spark with coat hanger. Pull out spark plug wire, ground to cross member and get no spark whatsoever. I've tried two caps and buttons. New wires as well. Swapped in old coil and same thing.
Coil only has 2 wires on negative (-) which are tachometer & black from Pertronix. Coil only has 2 wires on positive (+) which are ignition & red from Pertronix. There's no signs of a ballast on the car or in the schematic.
Grounded motor to cross member. I did move the battery to trunk and grounded very securely to the sheet metal. Not sure if this could be the issue. However, voltage at the coil + is 12.5 DC and 12.5 DC at alternator.
I get a sense there's not enough current from the coil to the distributor. Any advice would be greatly appreciation...it has to be something very simple.
