Front Wheel Bearings for a 95 and 96 Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 18 Nov 2021 15:27:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
At the risk of starting a second Bearing War, the following front wheel bearing recommendation came from Jack Lawrence via Stefan Vapaa. Recommended front wheel bearings are NTN brand #3306C3 or #3306SC3.
Stefan and his father George are heavily involved in Vintage Sports Car racing. Their stable includes a Sonett Roadster (Sonett I?), a Quantum II (one of only two known to exist IIRC), a Quantum IV (the most frequently raced version of this car), a Lotus 7, and a vintage Marcom Formula F.
Stfan was experiencing premature bearing failure on his early SAABs so Jack recommended these NTN bearings to him. Stefan told me he has not suffered a bearing failure yet, even with the cars used exclusively in competition.
My project car, also a Quantum IV, uses SAAB 95/96 front suspension at all four corners so I don't have part numbers for the rear bearings.
I know that other owners prefer Timken or SKF, or other brands. Any quality brand will be fine EXCEPT! Some long time SAAB Parts Suppliers are offering wheel bearings with plastic ball cages. Naybe because they are less expensive for the consumer, but the plastic cages fail under the heat generated by hard braking and driving.
Make sure the wheel bearings you buy are equipped with metal cages/dividers/spacers for the balls.
