Slow cranking. Posted by DSpringer [Email] (#2384) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DSpringer) on Sat, 29 Oct 2022 18:54:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thought I would share this. My '69 96 had a thorough tuneup before driving out from California to Sturgis for SOC 2022. Lately it has been cranking slower and slower and reached the point where it would not turn over fast enough to start. Battery, right? No, that checked out fine. Starter? Maybe. Ordered new brushes. Then I opened the distributor and the points were about half of the 0.026" clearance I set them to in July. And yes, I did lube the cam with silicone grease. In the box of parts the first owner provided with the car were a couple of new sets of points and a Pertronix setup. Dropped the Pertronix in, set the timing to 6 deg. BTDC with my strobelight and the starting problem is totally solved.
