I did this on my '67 96. I used the "rope-in" method. I installed the gasket and the aluminum trim on to the windshield first. I put parachute cord around the windshield and lubed everything with glass cleaner (soap would have been better). Working with a helper, we placed the windshield on the opening and I pulled the rubber gasket edge over the metal lip while the helper helped push the window in place.
The above was not easy, especially for the curved rear window (do the front first).
I ended up with my feet on the window frame pulling on the cord with the help of a wooden stick as a handle.
I recommend looking at instructional videos at Steele Rubber.
There is no shame in hiring this out either.
