I know I have asked about this before, but I finally got the tools, and am getting ready to replace the passenger side front wheel bearing and axel on my 78 99t. I am fairly competent with the OG900's but this 99 has some quirks, and I don't want to mess it up do to my ignorance. I bought a 12 ton Harbor Frieght Press specificly for this job.
I understand that I remove the steering knuckle/axel as one. No problem. Then I need to press the axel out of the hub right? I figured I could use my new press for this part, but I am not sure. I don't have the puller to remove the hub/rotor assemble from axel, but I thought I may be able to somehow do it with the press? Is that possible? Also, if I can't fit it in the press, can I use a hammer to beat the axel out, since I am replacing it and the bearing, or will that mess something else up? Assuming I get the axel out of the hub, I then can simply press the old bearing out, and the new bearing in, right? I hope that part is easy. After that I then need to press the outer joint back into the hub right?
I hope all this goes fairly smoothly, I really want to get this car on the road. It sure is a blast!
If I absolutely need the puller, is there anything else I can use? I saw that harbor frieght has 10" three fingered pullers for like $15, but I thought that was too small.
