The early Strombergs had adjustable jets, adjusted via the nut below the float chamber. The hole for the jet adjustment is blanked off on later carbs, where the jet is fixed and the needle is adjusted from above.
The first adjustable needle carbs have a hex adjuster accessed by removing the piston damper cap. Later version are accessed in the same way but have a raised ridge instead of a hex adjustment - therefore a special tool is required.
Incidentally, for anyone fitting K&Ns or similar to fixed jet twin CD150s you will find that there isn't a replacement needle of suitable profile for mixture richening throughout the rpm range to cope the increased air flow. The way round it is to lower the fixed jet by 0.1mm or so then fine tune with the needle adjustment.

PS - What happens if you have a smaller dwell angle than normal? I notice that the Petronix elec. ignition module gives me a dwell of around 40 deg. The spec. for the 99 is 50 deg. but I notice no ill effects!
