99 EMS '77 problem!

I've got a stupid little problem with getting my fuelpump out! It's broken and already got a new one, but I can't get the metal retaining ring loose, it's the ring that holds the rubber and is called "top plate" in the Haynes manuel ('79-'93).
Does this require a special Saab-tool? What is the best way to get this ring loose? My manual doesn't have information on this point.
My 99 is a '77 EMS model, it's my first 99 and I just got it, so I haven't got any experience with this model, only with two-strokers and V4's. So if you know a solution, please help me, I'd like to take my 99 for a first drive a.s.a.p.! Thanks!
