There are big vent holes in the *sides* of the engine compartment that serve that purpose. At 50mph there is plenty of air flow through the radiator.
I'm not sure why I hear so many complaints about overheating in the V-4's. They don't run nearly as hot as the 99's and 900's that I've driven/worked on. The engines are smaller and there is plenty of air moving through the radiator. The water pump is lower so it doesn't cavitate the way the 2.0L B-motors do when the water level is less than full. I know that some high-performance engines need extra cooling capacity, but I ran a '67 V-4 with the 3/4 cam and 28-36 DCD Weber carb and the smaller stock '67 radiator. The only time it ever ran hot was when stopped in traffic, and any car runs hot under those conditions. Before the mods were made, I did a trip from Washington DC to southwestern North Carolina via the Shenandoah Valley and the Great Smokies. It was 12 hours of actual driving time and at an average speed of 59 mph (before all of the freeways were built). I never overheated, even at 85+ on I-81 in Virginia.
