oil filter size

In doing an ignitor installation in my 96 (they work super well in my sonetts), I changed the oil to find I only had original saab oil filters left which i save for shows. Instead, I put on a Phram 8A1, a big old fit everything filter that goes on my Baracuda. While the o-ring seal and threads match: am I doing something wrong here? I can only imagine that the increased volume of the canister is a good thing. It is about 3 times the size of the saab application but fits in just fine and seals tight. Thanks for your input. Roger
