Gary the previous suggestions are good. My first thought is running out of fuel at maximum demand, the way to check this is to tee a gauge into the fuel line after the filter and pump, before the carburetor, duct-tape the gauge to the windshield (don't turn on the wipers now), and drive the car to duplicate the problem. If fuel pressure is dropping when the problem occurs, you may have a clogged pickup screen in the tank, clogged filter, or inadequate fuel pump. If fuel pressure stays high (probably 5-6 PSI) your problem is elsewhere. Second thought: If fuel delivery to the carb checks out good, you may still have a problem of inadequate fuel delivery to the engine, now we are looking at carburetor jetting. I think you have a Weber 2bbl (28-32? I'm not sure), anyway there are some pretty good books on that, Haynes has one, and I think the final answer if you go that route is particular to the individual engine, experiment to solve the problem. Third thought: (Do this before the Second thought) As I think was already touched on, you need to look at your timing curve. Ignition timing that is incorrect for the load/engine speed conditions can cause a problem. And optimal timing curve for the engine as designed (1bbl carb)
may be different for your setup.
