I just returned last night with my '70 model 95. I flew to Oregon to pick it up and drove 1,200 miles with a car I had 10 minutes experience with! The trip was almost uneventful... almost. The car absolutely refused to start when warm. It sounds like the starter is having a hard time turning over the engine, but the battery is new. Once home, I've been looking it over. It definitely needs an old fashion tune up. I have been able to get the cap & rotor, points, and plugs at the local auto parts store. No luck on getting new plug wires though. I'd also like to replace the coil for good measure. Since I live in Phoenix, where it is known to get warm frequently, I've been thinking of removing the thermostat. Only problem is that the auto parts store doesn't carry the gasket either.
I know from reading about 3 pages of previous postings that West of Sweden is one source for parts. What other resources are available to the 95/96 community for tune up and routine maintenance items? Any good leads on salvage parts? The car is in god shape, but neglected. I do need a handle for the hatch, if anyone knows where I can get one. The previous owner mentioned a salvage yard near him (he's in Bend, OR) that has a bunch of 95/96s, but didn't give me any more details.
Your input will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I'm still trying to find out about air conditioning!
