I just sold mine - it was excellent. Posted by Tulsaab [Email] (#31) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Tulsaab) on Sun, 3 Jun 2018 13:05:56 In Reply to: Six speed manual - reputation?, andym, Wed, 30 May 2018 08:47:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
After owning a 2011 9-3 XWD w/ the F40 6M which I could never get used to, I sold it and bought a few older Saabs with the venerable F35 5M transmission which I thoroughly enjoyed (with a few mods from Nick Taliaferro).
As fortune would have it, last year I had the opportunity to drive a 2014 NEVs 9-3 with an F40 6M in Sweden. The action was a lot slicker, and seemed perfectly mated to the A20NFT engine under the hood. So, upon my return I sought out and bought a 2011 9-5 with a 6M. In the year I had it, the only negative thing I could say about it is that the throw is a bit long. Other than that, it's great. I've heard from Saab techs that the F40 transmission is extremely robust - hence why its not known for its speed shifting, but they last forever.
My theory on why the same transmission was no good on the '11 XWD was that the additional drag from the XWD made the output driveshafts slow significantly quicker than on a FWD car, and therefore made it much harder to time the shifts with the inherently slow action on the F40...but i'm not an engineer.
Hope this helps!
