Did I use the wrong brake grease? Doh! braking woes

I recently replaced the rear brake pads and used "Permatex Copper Form-A-Gasket high temp sealent" on the back of the pads. I'm starting to think this was a mistake because the brakes sometimes squeak (usually when driving slow) and its starting to drive me nuts.
A few questions:
(1) What is the right 'copper grease' or brake grease and where can I buy it (online)? Haven't found it at pepboys, autozone, or any other store.
(2) How do I fix this? Take out the pads, scrub them, and apply new grease?
On another note, I noticed that the surface of my rotors aren't looking too pretty. Is there any way to clean them up without removing/replacing them?
thanks in advance,
X
