Thanks! I've done this procedure (I saw your site a while back. Maybe I've damaged the gate by opening it with a small screwdriver, which may have altered it's 'zero' or initial position. Might explain why the valve does work (clicks on and off), and the idle is extremely steady, but at about 1200 rpm IF the tach is to be believed, and the SOUND at idle is to be believed. Tach says it's idling high, and the sound to me is perceived as higher than normal idle.

Well, the CEL has been off for almost 600 miles. After a road trip to San Francisco and back, I hope it will still be off. If so, I'm immediately going to get it emissions tested--hopefully I'll pass the CA emissions (NoX was high).
