I jacked the car up put a bucket under the lower rad. hose as best I could and then made a makeshift funnel out of folded up aluminum foil then used a utility knife to cut a small hole into the lower rad. hose. Worked like a charm and I didin't have to go through all of the steps outlined in Deans post. I had rags under the car as well in case any coolant missed the bucket. I had an essentially loss of coolant onto the rags with this method.
FYI - I was having a hard time finding a good disposal method for the coolant here's what I did. I poured the coolant and flushed water into a 6 gal Carboy that I had (beer and wine making) capped it and brought it to the local Jiffy Lube. They have a tank that you can dispose of your coolant into at no charge.
