Thanks TomL. I am assuming you are not the "other Tom L"... but that's another discussion.
Umm.. not looking for any thunder. I read your post, I had been posting asking about it for over a year (thinking about it since I got the car) with few responses other than Mel who said he had done it, but I never received any definitive process to do such. Therefore, I decided to bite the bullet, rip the wire apart (I cheated because I had a spare first), decode the wires, and do it myself, that's all. And since no one else provided the details, here you go..
Yes, it's a simple idea, although, as you mention, the cassette idea is a bit more tricky since the "line outs" are on a circuit board rather than wires. This was mentioned elsewhere (VW guys) as well.
Thanks for the mention of the audio grade switch. I was sourcing parts, but did it for cheap with what I had readily available. (any thoughts - I will just google it) Because of the location, etc., I am not getting the noise, or if I am it is nearly inaudible. Yes it should be shielded, but every snip and solder with the wires/connections leaves an unshielded spot that needs/needed to be dealt with. How I did it seems to work well, and to my buddy's surprise, he even gave me the thumb's up. (He owns one of the largest Car Audio shops here in WNY.)
Thanks for the comments! Now on to the suspension (shocks/struts/bushings) for me before the white stuff starts to fall with regularity. Good luck to those that try this.
