A bench vice would be ideal, however, I was able to screw down the strut assembly by using the tie-rod end mount to prevent the assembly from spinning-hard to explain but it can be done. If you can get a hold of a pipe wrench (usually red in color with teeth), this will allow you to remove the screw cap to remove the strut unit from the assembly.
By tapping in on the driveshaft end with a rubber mallet, this will make it easier to unbolt the balljoint nut.
Elliot, I just sent you an email to a site that shows the dissasembly in detail. Unfortunately I can't post that site directly on the boards.
