The Alero is okay. That's it. It doesn't come close to the competition in terms of driving experience, but it's not bad. It's reasonably attractive, too. But the overall them is: Bland. Boring. Dull. Read any review of it and the reviewer will tell you the same thing.
Same thing for the Aurora and Intrigue. In fact, the Aurora has been flat-out ruined. To most casual observers, it looks like an Alero. Handling is mushy and imprecise. The engines are still overwhelmed by bulk. The last comparo I read put the Aurora dead last among the competition.
GM is the George W. Bush of the auto world: expectations are so low that people are totally awed when they build a car that doens't completely suck. You can see it in all the reviews: GM's new cars typically get good reviews, but by the time the first comparo takes place, the world begins to realize that GM's newest is comparable only with previous-generation cars from the competition.
I've never seen any GM car win any comparo.
Now, as for SUVs, you probably know more than I do. I haven't driven any GM SUVs and don't pay attention, but from what I hear they're fine. But that's not what I'm talking about.
How many models does GM make? It has to be a couple dozen at least. Only one is world-class: the Corvette. The STS is very good, but still not up to the standards set by Audi, BMW, Mercedes. The rest range from acceptible to heinous.
