Granted--I forgot about the Lincoln LS. Point well taken. I was shocked when Ford US introduced this car. I will applaud their efforts, as it is one of the few positive signs from Ford US operations. Then again there is a reason why I forgot about it--around here you are more likely to see an exotic than a Lincoln LS. Probably because the competition in the Lincoln's segment is simply better.
In regard to the Focus, it may or may not be fine for what it is but personally I don't see it as a serious automobile. Sure wouldn't drive one on roads filled with Excursions and Expeditions, however, I don't have any objection to Focus production. It is, however, in the middle of an extensive recall for something fundamental (I believe that it was brake or suspension related but don't recall for certain).
Fords PARTIAL interest in Mazda is giving them headaches. I am sure they wouldn't mind unloading it. I have no personal objection to Mazda but I don't consider Mazda and Ford the same company.
Aston Martin and Jaguar are a unique case. It is a flagship unit that has been given a lot of latitude and independence. It is more about prestige and status than about profit or production. Also, has I had said in my previous post Ford Europe has always done better. Ford US and European operations have traditionally been separate. My comments were specific to Ford’s US operations.
Finally, Ford has had more than their share of problems. But the real issue with Ford is that they tend to cover them up or ignore them even more than most corporations.
