At constant speed on a sloping interstate, the car seems to pull towards the downward slope and the situation is proportionally worse depending on the slope. Torque steer occurs during hard and rapid accleration. Thus what you are experiencing is the car's annoying road manners on less than flat highways. The power needed to direct the car against the camber steer increases as the car's speed increases so that the car handles poorly at higher speeds.
I have been contacted by SAAB USA after notifying them via repeated e-mails about my frustrations with this less than stellar handling trait. I will be speaking to a district manager per SAAB Legal Affairs. I will let you all know whether I find the response satisfactory. I am unsure about my options at this point, however if the DM offers some reasonable solution, I will cooperate with SAAB. Around town or during brief commutes the Camber steer issue is not so annoying but on long jaunts across 100s of miles, it is tedious and at odds with SAAB's marketing representations about the 9-3 being the synthesis of utility, performacne, safety and design.
Do the highways in Sweden not have road camber as well? If not for this problem, I could state that the SAAB is simply the best car I have ever owned. But after driving four hours along rain soaked highways, the over correcting of the steering wheel and the fear of letting go of the wheel for even a second get a tad tedious.
