The door openings on the 3-door are longer and make it much easier to get into and out of the car when the front seat is moved back away from the steering wheel. On the 5-door the b-pillar gets in the way. It's a common problem with small sedans.
Plus the 3-door looks much cooler and weighs 40lbs less than the 5-door. Thus, the 3-door must be faster too. ;-)
