Good thing you weren’t in the market for a SAAB back when SAAB REFUSED to put cup holders in their cars. The philosophy is sit down, buckle up, shut up and drive. They finally broke down and included cup holders in a concession to the American market. Incidentally, it is illegal to drink while driving in some countries and I am not talking about alcohol.
If you have both hands on the wheel, where they belong, an armrest really makes no sense. Moreover, if you have a manual transmission (SAAB is one a few companies to still sell a high percentage of manuals) they often just get in the way. I have never missed not having an arm rest and don't see what the fuss is about.
Technically, I don't think it is an option but an accessory. Meaning simply (but I could be wrong about this) that it is available dealer installed only.
Enjoy your new car with or without the arm rest and welcome.
