Well, after 3.5 months of waiting and eternal delays, I finally took delivery of my 2001 9-3 SE (Midnight blue w/ 5 spd.) The dealer honored the price we had agreed upon 3 months ago (Invoice - $4500) and even gave me a break on accessories( not much, but still welcome). I know alot of people got the full $5500, but this is the only Saab dealership in the state and I had to take what was on the table. They're also a Porsche/Audi/VW dealership; so they don't like to discount much. I don't know if it's true or not, but according to the sales guy they were only going to receive a $4000 incentive on my car because it's a 5-spd. He said the 5-spd's were in demand (they had like 5 9-3's on the lot all auto except for a Viggen vert) and they weren't offering as much at this time. I don't know if they were still offering the full $5500 on the automatic. Of course, I know, everything a salesperson says must be taken with a grain of salt. The finance guy naturally balked at the numbers that were drawn up over 3 months ago and said they were giving me too much for my trade and they weren't going to make any money, but he eventually complied. They couldn't compete with my credit union's 6.8% interest rate; so I financed through them (got a free cheapo vacation in the deal too). I've put about 40 miles on the car and I must say it's a joy to drive. I thought it had decent acceleration and I thought the suspension dampened bumps well without feeling floaty. I must say that I traded in a supercharged Mustang GT (daily driver) which had stunning acceleration but rode rather rough; so my evaluation would be different from someone who previously drove a luxury car. Overall, my first impressions are positive and I hope my Saab will continue to give me many years of enjoyment.
