Could not agree more, this is NOT a lemon law case which is designed to cover cars of poor quality that repeatedly exhibit problems during the initial ownership term. It appears from your story that the dealership has damanged your car, in a substantial way.
You need to document your dealer visit, the time it took for your problem to show up, the telephone calls or conversations you had with your dealer and any attempts to fix this problem. You can save some money by documenting your account, and then send a letter to your dealer, SAAB USA and perhaps a local consumer protection agency demanding satisfaction. Ultimately if you want a new car, engine or some accomodation, you will likely have to take some legal action. The first remedy by the dealer will likely be to fix the problem without replacing your engine. Lawyers will cost you some money, but as one of the previous posters stated, you should shop hard for a lawyer with some experience in construction or vehicle maintenance negligence, or at least some proven record in the area. It is not necessary for your lawyer to only do these cases, but you need someone who knows the law and the steps you can and should take to elevate this problem. One good way to get recommendations is to ask other lawyers who they would call if they had this problem and wanted a reasonable solution. Ask up front what the lawyer charges, and don't be afraid to comparison shop. Ask for references if they their clients agree to be contacted. You will find wildly different rates and charges but it may be worth your effort.
