I went with a high milage Michelin 80K tread wear, I think it's called a michelin Xradial, t rated , not V. I bought 4 at costco. for about $300 including life time balance and rotation as often as I want. I went with a slightly taller tire and I believe my gas milage improved to boot.

Sure call me stupid or out of my mind, but they are whisper quiet on my 65 mile commute average speed about 75-80 mph, they hold great in rain, and the tread last year never failed me in the 140 inches of snow we recieved in march and april.

these are not soft sidewall tires nor stiff wide low profile, these are just a great touring tire, and it sounds as though your driving maybe very simular to mine.
