I used to be a CR based buyer as well. They were what kept me out of a Saab for so long to begin with. I had always wanted one but they always got just dismal reviews and ratings. One year I bought VW Jetta based on a CR recommendation, what a piece of total crap that car was. It was awful and left me stranded more than once...

Well, I finally in the midst of a "what the hell, life is short" moment, went ahead and bought my first Saab, a '96 900SE. It has been a perfect car. I have never done anything other than routine maintenance to it. And that is not as costly as most people think. It costs me no more than my VW or Subaru and my Saab is SOOOOO much more fun to drive and has been a pleasure to own. I loved my '96 so much I bought a new '01 9-3SE and I love that even more. So far it has been perfect, and it was a fantastic buy with the incentives. I still have my trusty '96 but I am thinking about buying a Viggen or possibly selling it and getting yet another 9-3 as they are so much nicer than the 900's.

Use CR as a guide. But don't live your life by it. If Saab is the car for you I think you know it. The joy of owning and driving a car like a Saab far outweighs any negatives that some consumer magazine comes up with. If you only were interested in buying a car they recommend then buy a Toyota Camry and be done with it, blend in with the rest of the car clones and drones. But the fact is you came here to have someone talk you into a 9-3... Jump in DO IT, the warranty is warm and 48K miles long...
