In a turbo-charged engine the higher octane DOES give you better performance. The Trionic engine mgmt. system is programmed to "hear" the knock generated by lower octane fuel and will retard timing, performance, etc. - thereby leading to reduced acceleration.
To prove this, try putting some 87 in your car and then stand on it... the turbo gauge won't leave the yellow zone. Switch back to 93 and after a little while, you'll be happily positioned in the red zone on acceleration.
If you drive in rush hour or in such a way that you never leave the white zone, you probably don't need high octane fuel.... trade your Saab and get an Escort - or 3. :-) j/k
