airbox fix - mechanical alteration???? Posted by MikeMc [Email] (#2446) [Profile/Gallery]

I have had my airbox "fixed" twice now.
First was the "grease the drum" trick per the TSB. Lasted 6 months until it seized again.
Second time my dealer tells me they performed a "mechanical alteration to the heater flap". He tells me this is what SAAB now recommends for my car ('99 9-3 base). It is nto the grease, but a permanent change to teh existing parts. It's still working fine (3 months), but I am coming off warranty soon, and do not want to incur the repair on my own nickel later.
At the time I did ask for the newly designed airbox to be installed, and what I got was "...we'll fix it properly...".
Anyone heard of this variation of the fix?
