Some tips and precautions:

0. Try to take a few laps as a passenger with a driver that knows the course, and learn their line.

1. Get on the power soon and hard coming out of the corners to keep the understeer under control.

2. To prevent warping the brakes, don't apply the handbrake after a run. Also, if you can take some cool-down laps, do it, or after parking roll the car back and forth a few inches every several seconds to keep the brake pads from cooling one section of the rotors faster than the rest (can also cause warping).

3. Have fun. It's a blast.
