They can't just walk away from this. If they could, all cars would blow after the warranty is up. There are laws to protect you in cases such as this. Although the warranty is up, there is an expectation that the car will not have a breakdown such as this. Sort of like buying something that is "as is" and "final sale". If it doesn't do what it is supposed to than you can return it, unless you know it is damaged to begin with.
