the majority of the 17" wheel bending problem exists because tyre pressures aren't set high enough. 30psi doesn't cut it on a 40 series tyre. You need to be running around 35-37psi. The ride will be slightly more rough, but you drive a sports car anyway ( Porsche drivers aren't complaining about bending wheels, and they have much lower profile tyres).
