had did not have the underbody mouldings, and it had the 16" wheels. The most definite improvement is the console area. The window switches have been moved to the doors, and (brace yourself) there is a real cupholder in the console that is large enough for a travel mug. The hand brake lever is also ingenius, when down it is completely hidden as part of the console design. The key is an infared key similar to Mercedes' and has four buttons instead of three.

The rear seats fold down w/o the need of folding the seat bottoms up. They also have latches in the trunk area, so that the driver can release the rear seats w/o the need of crawling through the interior.

The engine bay has been cleaned tremendously, and looks like a $40k car. The oil filer has been moved to be accessible from the top of the motor, and is a catridge type instead of a spin-on. With the proper equipment the oil can be changed without ever putting the car on a lift.

The hood was more pronounced than the preview model that we saw in Detroit. The center has been raised, and the hood's center body lines are more pronounced.

The interior was much more roomy, and the rear cupholders have been moved from the center armrest (like in the 9-5) to deploy from the front of the center seat. The glove box is refridgerated like the 9-5, and there is no wood what-so-ever on the dash. In all honesty, there is no place on the dash that wood would fit; the portions that are not used by electronics, are covered in faux leather and have shapely curves. Unfortunately, the pre-production car wasn't fitted with the butterfly cupholder, so I didn't get to play with it. The '03 models will not receive On-screen Navigation, but the plan remains that the '04 models will.

The moonroof is frameless, and the transition from glass to painted body is flawless. The shape of the nose, allows for a clamshell look even w/o having our traditional clamshell hood.

I apologize for jumping around, and I'm sure that I forgot some specifics; but the whole event caused me to go into sensory overload. I'll try to answer any specific questionsm that I didn't address here.

Cheers,
Brian.
