Actually, it's not the dealer[s]. It's the manufacturer, mostly from liability and regulatory standpoint, that prevents the user from fiddling with things they probably shouldn't. I had the change to lighting controls done by dealer service since a Tech II is mandatory. Also had the alarm pattern changed at the same time. The control codes are different by years and models. I had very specific changes in mind based on past posts about what could be done with the Tech II.

I do wish some features could be adjusted by the user/owner, but I can see the rationale for restricting changes to other things. Especially in this litigious age, even if the users mess up on their own, the manufacturer can be and have been successfully be sued for allowing it to happen.
