New 9-3 power question (new owner paranoia?)

Hello there
am writing this from a very hot'n'humid Bangkok (2x9-3's and 1x9000 in beuatiful condition seen since arrival last night...) on my way back from Cambodia (not a Saab to be found in the country)
Picked up a wonderful 9-3 S in July - have put about 4000 miles on it - have loved just about every second.
It is a petrol model with 15" tires (...long story...we wanted 16" but...) - anwyay, we had test driven the 9-3 diesel a couple of times (long drives from Rome into Tuscany etc.) -
I was really struck by the diesel's surging power during hard mid-range acceleration (viz. that "pit of your stomach" feeling) and noticed the oft' discussed torgue steer effect. I notice that our petrol 9-3 gives me neither of these.
Having said that, it is wonderfully fast and i have no complaints - it is just that I have noticed this difference.
Is this because I was just driving the test car a little harder and treat my own car much more gently? is this just a normal to-be-expected difference with a diesel (seems unlikely) - could the dealer have puts some undeclared mods into the diesel? Or am I just being paranoid?
thanks for any thoughts
ps - is there anything that I should be doing by the time I reach 5000 miles (ref. servicing etc.?)
thanks
