Thanks for all the replies. To answers some of the questions, here's the complete story. The guy leases the car and later buys a CD changer. I do not know where he got it or who installed it, etc. Maybe the dealer married it up or maybe it's a Clarion. After three years he removes the CD changer, since he owns it, and turns the car in. Someone buys the car from Chase Bank at the Columbus auction and sells it to me the next day. This middle man correctly tells me that there is not CD changer which I understand before buying. Neither of us knew that one had been installed and later removed. So then I take the car to a dealer, willing to pay for a CD changer to be installed. The dealer quotes me $633 but says that it won't work because the last one was not divorced. I find the name of the original lessor in the glove box and call him, trying to seek out the CD changer and key/remote. His mother answers and gets nearly irate, initially thinking the dealer told me that the son owes me a changer. After I calm her, she calls the son who must have told her to tell me to drop dead. His story is the CD changer is installed in a new Saab. The mother or father work for GM somehow (not sure if corporate or a local dealer) and may have a connection with the local Saab. So the dealer may be more cooperative with them than they are with me, a polite, paying customer. It could be that they used my VIN to divorce his CD changer to install it in the new car. I'm not calling these people back because they made it very clear they were not interested in helping me.
I pulled the head unit to see if it's a Clarion. The label did not specifically say Clarion or Pioneer. The head unit was made in France and the label had model numbers and a pin out diagram for the connectors. Does anyone know how to interpret this to tell if it is Clarion or Pioneer? Again, thanks for all the posts in response to my first cry for help.
