VP,
The tow truck guy and I looked at the manual it's far from clear. The problem was my toneau top was already down and locked. Maybe by just forcing the front down and locking it in place we did the right thing...neither he nor I would have known because there is no one at Saab Roadside assistance on Sundays who could tell us.
I agree it may have been one bad rep, but it was one bad supervisor too and it was one bad decision not to have some technical support resource available when dealers aren't available. So, in reality you get 5 or 6 day by 8 hour roadside assistance and AAA with a bad attitude the rest of the week.
As a general comment...when I drive my Mercedes I know if the car breaks down they are either going to help me or going to send out someone that will get me safe and home. I know that may not happen with Saab Roadside and that feeling is worth more than any other feature in an automobile to me.
I've had mostly good experiences with my Saab, but there have been two glaringly bad encounters with Saab. Yesterday and the two chances I gave On Star before deciding not to renew the service. Maybe it's not a coincidence that those services appear to be both operated by GM corporate rather than Saab itself...I dunno.
