A closed-end wrench set I picked up has "lobes" which fit against sides of the nut/bolt, rather than "notches" which surround the corners of it. Since it doesn't rely on the corners, they can be completely gone & I can still turn the nut/bolt. I think it's "Popular Mechanics" brand, but I know the same design is out under other brands as well.
