Sorry for the dramatic subject, but I want to save you from my fate. I had fill coolant warnings for a week, and kept just adding water/glycol. I drove a lot and pretty hard during that period, but nothing too out of the ordinary for my trusty '99 Saab 9-3 (74,500 miles).
Like an idiot, I failed to determine where the missing coolant was going.
Turns out it was leeking via head gasket breach into my oil line, and that my oil was leaking into my coolant. This contamination caused failure of the bearing seal on my turbo, and all of this much got sucked through my turbo and into my intercooler, heater core and radiator. Killed my engine, and would require head machnining, full disassembly to check brearings on crank and about $3000 of work to fix (incl replacing the turbo)!
I am now looking for a new engine to put into my car instead of having that kind of labor done.
if its just a leaky gasket fix ASAP before disaster. If its a bad radiator, fix before overheating leads to a blown head gasket.
