yes, you read right--muriatic acid.

here's the story: i parked my car in an underground garage (right after a fresh washing) and left it there for a few weeks while out of town. well, the blizzard hit while i was gone and the basement sprung a few leaks, a couple of which dripped directly from the cement ceiling on to my hood and front fenders. it left these hellish-looking white stains (on black paint) that did not want to come off even after 2 washings (and little rubdown with wax) the guys in the garage said they'd take care of it.

so, they used this spray bottle which burned away the cement stains, then they'd rinse with water. they wouldn't tell me what they were using, but i persisted. it was muriatic acid diluted with water. The paint didn't seem harmed in any way to my eye, and i made sure it was thoroughly rinsed by --by hand and then by a nice rain storm. BUT, anybody heard of this?

ahh the joys of car ownership in new york.
