I purchased a used 1999 9-3 from a Toronto dealer last July. It came with the low pressure turbo (8th letter is "N"), 16" wheels with 205/50/16 tires (standard on an SE moderl) and a leather interior but no ACC - I think Saab did a special run of subtly uplifted base models as I do have an original Saab dealer price list from 1999 (yes, I was looking then to replace the 1996 900S) and the wheel/leather options are not listed. It also has a sunroof. I bought the car with over 35,000 kilometer and 15 months of warranty left.
Now the bad/good news:
The dealer did not identify previous damage (repainted RF fender and cracked inner fender liner) however they did honour my request to have it repaired at an Ottawa dealer.
The following is the list of warranty covered problems:
1. Full heater box replacement (book says this is an 8 hour repair - whole dash Re-and-re!
2. Replcement of heater control knob (see item 1.)
3. Right side B-pillar covering33. Battery
Current list of things to be covered under warranty:
1. Rear hatch struts
2. Hood emblem colour gone
3. Low Coolant warning - dealer has pressure tested the system and all is said to be OK (no leaks and coolant level in reservoir doesn't go down) but check this site for problems this could be an indicator of
List of things I've paid for:
1. New rear rotors and pads - totally worn after 60,000 kms, I'll be doing the front rotors and pads in the warmer weather (1996 Saab went 120,000 kilometers before requiring rotors and pads!)
2. Rear shocks (noticed these leaking while doing rear rotors! I will talk to Saab dealer about being covered!
All this to say is "Do your homework on the car." This is my 3rd Saab and my 1996 had a much better build quality.
I love driving the 1999 car, but for fun the 1987 T900 convertible gets the nod!
Good luck.
