The rear main brakes are adjustment free. However, the pad backing plates sometimes get rust bound in the caliper slots. This does not mean that the pistons are neccessarily siezed. The pads can be remove and things cleaned and the pad edges and adjacent slot surfaced greased as a preventative. New pads should be installed this way from the get-go. The pins and clips should be greased as a rust preventive too.

The rear parking brakes can stick from lack of lubrication, and that wears out the small but very expensive P-brake shoes. So some preventive maintenance is definately required. Many folks and shops don't do this and the results are expensive. When things are working properly, IE well maintained, cleaned and lubricated, the P-bake shoes never wear at all! If the P-brakes need adjustment, there is wear and things need to be attended too, adjusting the P-brakes only is just tighening the noose around your neck. Note that rusted up P-brake cables can cause problems too.

So yes, there is some preventative maintenance that needs to be done to the rear brakes, not just adjustement of anything. Many shops will ignore this and will be glad to install new P-brake shoe$ and rotor$ later on. And when one main rear pad gets stuck, often the inboard one, the other one will wear very fast and go steel on steel... new rotors again.

During an inspection, clean, lube, it would not be shocking to come across a caliper with damaged outer piston boost and/or siezed calipers. This design of caliper is very very old and has always had such troubles.

Many do this type of preventative maintenance themselves. Ask the shop to attend to the p-brake, caliper clean and lube and check the p-brake cable. Could be over $60... Search for drs<underscore>install on the NG900 BB and look for brake work postings.

While doing this work, is it time to get the brake fluid bled?
