Bottom line is, get what you'll enjoy owning. But if you're planning on getting a new car in the next 1-3 years, stay away from new. The hit you will take will hurt.

The way I see it, gently used c1ars, or cars just off lease offer some flexibility. Trust me on this one concerning flexibility. I'm taking a HUGE hit on my 2002 VW. I bought it for $22,000 a little over a year ago. I will be lucky to get $13,000 for it. I simply NEED to get rid of it. It's been in for repairs 14 times in 15 months & I only have 13K left on my warranty. I know Saab's should be more reliable than my VW, but why chance it when you can get a great deal used.

Someone has already taken the big hit & you get the benefit of an almost new car at a hugely discounted price, especially in today's market. Stealerships are doing everything they car to get used cars off of their lot. It took almost no effort at all for me to talk the dealer down to 3500 below blue book & $150 above Edmunds TMV.

If you like the looks, styling, & features of the new 9-3's, then by all means get the car you want. Buyers regret is a terrible thing. But if you're not too attached to the new ones I reccommend taking a shop around on autotrader & see what you can get a used car for. Also, check edmunds.com for the TMV. If a dealer going to give you the car for close to TMV, then they dont want to sell their car bad enough & you should feel confident in walking out the door.

Good luck!
