I've had 2 different Saab mechanics tell me 2 different things regarding the brand of gas to use. I was told many years ago to use Mobil, Exxon or Texaco exclusively, to reduce the knocking & pinging I'd complain to him about hearing (prior to using these brands I was using whatever was cheapest -- Getty, Sunoco, Gulf, generic, etc. -- whatever was cheap & most convenient) however, when I followed my mechanic's instructions, sure enough he was right & the knocking & pinging subsided. This was with my 900S. With the 9-3 I asked the dealership yesterday what they'd recommend. He said use 89 and STAY AWAY FROM Mobil and Exxon as they put additives in their gas that causes a rotten egg smell (is this the only result of using that type of gas? Because I can honestly say, in all my years of using Mobil, Exxon & Texaco, I have NEVER smelled rotten eggs) and he recommended I use Citgo as my number one choice, followed by Sunoco. He said Texaco was okay to use, but try to get Citgo. Hmm...Now I'm totally and completely confused by what to get and what to avoid. I don't really care about smells, but I want to get what is best for my car.
Help?
