my doc says put the kids in facing forward after one year of age. not to say you can't put them in facing rearward, but rearward is such a pain in the butt. it may be a bit safer in a frontal impact, but at some point you have to balance life's realities.

Anyhoo. I'm not sure what the seatbelts are like on the 2000, but on my 2002, they come with the child seat lock switch. This switch eliminates the need for those goofey metal clips that come with the seats. With the switch in the "child locked possition", I am able to cinch my kid's seat down so firmly that it's not even funny. If you don't have these belts, it may be worth it to ask your dealer to install some. If you do have these and can't seem to get it tight, you might want to go by the dealer and see if someone can help....or sometimes local firestations or other public safety type places will check out your installation etc. Good luck.
