I run OS Xon a G4 powerbook and have rebooted only 2 or 3 times in the past year. That's pretty good, but pales in comparison to the Sun workstations in my lab that have uptimes of 1-2 years, with installation of a new Solaris OS being the usual reason for reboots. One older Sun in the lab, running legacy software which only runs under Sun OS 4.X has been up for almost 8 years. Now that's well engineered !
My Saab needed a reboot after 6 weeks. Given the number of potential programmer glitches likely in this car, you have to think that a reboot button ought to be a good idea. Could save Saab a bundle in service costs, and consumers a lot of time and frustration. I'm going to have to figure out which fuse or relay I pulled that cleared the system. I'm guessing one of the big MAXI fuses in the engine compartment.
