Traded my '00 viggen (end of lease) for an '03 Arc with sports package, touring package, auto (for my wife) and sunroof.

Really miss the WOOOSH of the viggen with the standard!! But REALLY don't miss the acceleration skitter :) Also, the chasis IS much more nicely mannered - more rigid for sure!

Innitial thoughts on the new car will follow once I've had a few more days with it for those who are interested :) And of course I'll be happy to answer questions if possible.

Anyhow, maybe one of you gurus knows about the following:

1. In the owners manual, the key (now obnoxiously referred to as the "remote control" <yay marketing :> is supposed to have a function that allows you to remotely roll down or up all the windows when approaching (or leaving) the car. This is a great feature on hot summer days! But I can't make it work.

In the manual its referred to as "optional" yet the vehicle I got (last 03 Arc with auto and sport package available it would appear) came equipped with every offered option!

I wonder if this is configurable at the dealer?

On that thought, the car makes no sound when I lock/unlock with the remote - only the lights flash. THAT I'm fairly sure is dealer configurable. But I wonder if these things are user adjustable? (I can't find anything in the "profiler" menu about them :(

2. For all the GREAT upgrades this car has over the previous version, the "premium' sound system SUCKS. I understand they use fiber rather than copper wire to connect electronics in the car, but can the speakers at least be replaced? I have to assume the ultimately, the last connection to the mounted speakers is via copper. I can't imagine how they got the "13" speakers to sound that ... lame :) Guess that's the GM input <snicker>

3. I spoiled my craving for vroooom with the Viggen... and even at 210hp, the auto in this car just doesn't have that neck bending torque - particularly off the mark. Any thoughts on improving low end torque? air filter? I'm already considering the Abbot Trionic reprogramming, but I loathe the thought of sending the actual module across the ocean to have this done.

4. the sports package on the Arc puts on a "sport" suspension and 17 inch wheels with Pirelli P zeros. NO ONE at SAAB could tell me if the "sport" suspension upgrade brought the ARC suspension to what was effectively the standard Vector suspension. Seems logical..But I can't help being curious. Mosly I'm curious about the 17 inch WHEELS. The wheels on the viggen are about as strong as cold butter, and I had to have them straightened a couple of times. Apperently they were "cheaper aftermarket wheels" that SAAB put on the viggen. The ARC/Vector 5-spokers look like OEM SAAB wheels. Anyone have information about whether these might be more bend resistant?

Ok.. enough yada for now.

For those curious, my INITIAL initial reaction to this car is that it is more competent and more nicely integrated than its predecessor but possibly at the expense of a bit of childlike grin factor. So far so good.

All feedback is as always greatly appreciated!!

Earl
