Spark plugs - newbie question

So, I'm reading all the posts regarding replacement spark plugs. As a newbie, I'd like to verify a few things:
I understand that:
I *MUST* get NGK plugs, and preferrably the platnium version. (I don't plan to take out and inspect every few 1000 miles, so I'm not going with regular plugs..)
I am not going to regap/re-polish my old plugs because its really the tips thats platnium coated, and polishing it away defeats the purpose. Also, I may mangle it too much and lose the parallel-ness of the gap.
The confusing part:
Which gap size should I get? I read 1.0mm, I read 0.9mm, and I even read 0.8mm. I believe spec. (2002 9-3 SE 205 HP 2.0L HOT) is 1.0mm?
So which part number?
Also, what size spark plug socket should I get?
