First check your insurance. You might just get it for free. I had one chip (on a VW) that didn't start cracking across the windshield until more than a year later. My insurance said that wasn't too unusual, & they didn't give me any grief about it.
I've used on of those $15 walmart fix-a-chip kits, it worked pretty good. You stick a small disk adapter thing onto the windshield, then use a syringe to suck the air out of the crack. Then mix & inject this epoxy stuff into the chip. After it cures overnite peel the disk off & cut the epoxy flat with a razor blade.
My chip was there for a couple years before I decided to do this. It sure wasn't invisible, but it was a lot better. I guess those things work better if you do it soon.
