I hope so. Thats odd at 22K miles. Did you know the previous owner? About 6 weeks ago Saab sold all their Flight Academy Viggens -- do you get one of those? Not sure I would have wanted one of those Viggens. previous owner could have autocrossed it as well - thats never easy on the engine.
The only engine I have ever blown was an 89 Chevrolet Beretta GTU that was 4 years old and had 90K miles on it. It was cold and I was driving like an idiot and the car hadn't fully warmed up and blew a rod...Keep in mind that I did buy it as a repo car in 1990 with 28K miles on it so who the hell knows how she was treated when new.
Regardless I would not consider myself easy on my cars. I like to drive fast and accelarate fast, but always broke my cars in gently when bought new. I do all the service by the book at the Saab dealer and change oil with M1 every 5K miles. All that said I haven't had any issue with the 3 Saabs I have owned - 2 9-3s and 1 9-5. My 99 Viggen has 38K miles and about all I battle lately are suspension issues (strut dampening) - once I get those right she will be a winner. My only complaint with the Viggen is the suspension - not good enough and delicate (not to mention the rims). Engine wise that baby pulls!
